Privacy policy

The short version

There is no account, no server and no upload. Camera frames and audio are processed on your phone and never leave it. The birth date is optional, stored only on your device, and there is a button in Settings that deletes it.

What is stored, and where

The app stores your baby’s date of birth and, if you gave it, the weeks of pregnancy at birth — both optional — along with your language, your unlock state and whether you allowed crash reporting. All of it lives in this app’s own storage on this device. None of it is transmitted anywhere.

Camera and microphone

The camera is used only while the live view is open, and the microphone only while the hearing or room screens are open. Each permission is requested by the screen that needs it, never at launch. Frames and audio are processed in memory and discarded; nothing is written to storage unless you export it yourself, and nothing is sent to us or to anyone else.

Information about a child

This app is for adults. The only information it can hold about a child is a date of birth and a gestational age, both optional, both local, both deletable in one tap. No analytics event ever carries either: the age is reported as one of six wide bands, so a precise age cannot be reconstructed from it.

Crash reports and usage

Crash reports and usage statistics are off by default. If you turn them on in Settings, the app sends anonymous usage events and crash reports through Google Firebase. Turning them off calls the SDK’s own switch, which stops collection rather than merely stopping us from reading it. The complete list of events is:

Links to Amazon

Some pages link to Amazon searches for the kind of toy or book the model puts within reach at an age. Those are affiliate links, and a purchase made after following one earns this project a commission. Following one hands you over to Amazon, who set their own cookies under their own privacy policy; this site sends them nothing about you, and nothing is followed unless you tap it. What is recommended, and in what order, is computed from the research — it is never decided by what pays.

Advertising

The only ads are optional rewarded ones you choose to watch, and they are never personalised. No advertising identifier is used for tracking, and no advertising SDK is initialised at all in a build without ads configured. If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, Google’s consent form is shown before the first ad is ever requested, and you can reopen it whenever you like from Settings.

This website

The website loads Google Analytics only after you press Allow on the banner. Declining downloads none of it. Withdrawing consent deletes the analytics cookies. It sends the same event names the app does, from the same shared list above, so the two are one set of counters rather than two. One of them is only ever sent here: tapping a store badge records which of the two stores it was, and nothing else. The privacy policy and terms pages are never measured at all.

Your rights

Newborn Vision keeps nothing about you on a server, so for almost everything there is nothing to hand over or erase: deleting the app, or pressing “Delete everything stored on this phone” in Settings, removes the date of birth, the gestational age, your language and your unlock state from the device at once. The one exception is measurement, and only if you turned it on. Anonymous usage events and crash reports then sit in Google Analytics against a random app-instance identifier — never a name, an email or a date of birth. Turning the switch off in Settings stops collection at the SDK; to have what was already collected removed, write to app4animal@gmail.com and say so — there is no account to prove, so asking is enough. Google deletes event data after 2 months and identifier data after 14 months in any case.
